Melanoma is the most common form of cancer here in Australia and the third most common among the entire community. We at Skin Check WA, strongly believes in the importance of early detection, prevention, and treatment of melanoma and skin cancers.
With this, we will be a part of the Ironman Bussleton event in the South West of WA on 2nd and 3rd of December. In partnership with melanomaWa – click here for more info.
In events such as the Ironman, athletes spend many hours in the mid-day sun, which is a major risk factor for all skin cancers, including the most serious, melanoma. Whether on the track, in the water or in the field, outdoor athletes receive excess amounts of ultra-violate radiation (UV) exposure for many reasons.
No matter if you are an athlete or a member of the general population, the Australian lifestyle encompasses several risk factors that make sun smart lifestyle choices important.
Skin Check WA will be providing support services on the event for those that have been diagnosed with melanoma, family and friend who has a high risk or concerning spots. Our team will provide spot check of moles and skin lesions.
No necessary thing to prepare, simply dress appropriately and be prepared to clean the areas to remove the sunscreen for a better assessment.
The check is free for Medicare card holders, kindly provide your Medicare card or at least a photo of it.
Join us and we hope to see you there!
